The Lucky Foot of Francis Sharp Powell The Lucky Foot of Francis Sharp PowellA young lady smiles at the thought of the luck she will receive after rubbing the lucky foot of Francis Sharp Powell. Sir Francis Sharp Powell, baronet, was born in Wigan on 29th June, 1827. He was the town's Member of Parliament. In 1910 this statue was erected by public subscription. Generations of Wiganers have rubbed the right foot to bring good luck. Francis Sharp Powell died 24th December, 1911.
